What is masking?
Masking, a.k.a camouflaging, is when a neurodivergent person suppresses or hides their natural traits to appear neurotypical. It's common in adults with ADHD and autism, particularly those who were late-diagnosed or high-masking.
What does this quiz measure?
This tool is based on the published Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire (CAT-Q) โ Hull et al. (2019), Autism, 23(1), 45โ57. It measures three domains: assimilation (fitting in), compensation (coping strategies), and masking (hiding yourself). Nothing is stored or transmitted. Your answers exist only in your browser.
How is this version adapted?
The original CAT-Q is an adult self-report measure that uses a 7-point response scale. This Twilight Psychology version is also intended for adults, but it adapts responses into a simpler 3-choice format to make self-reflection faster and easier. For more context, read How to Understand your CAT-Q Masking Results.
What if my score is high?
High masking scores are common in adults who were never evaluated for ADHD or autism โ especially women and anyone who "always seemed fine." If your result resonates, a psychological evaluation can give you real answers. Twilight Psychology offers evaluations with some of the shortest waitlists in Kentucky.
